Dr. Engels has been CIO and a Member of the Executive Board at Union Asset Management Holding AG since July 2022, overseeing securities portfolio management. Previously, he served as Global Head of Fixed Income at DWS and held senior roles at Union Investment (2012–2021), including Head of Fixed Income, Head of Mulit-Asset, Head of Portfolio Management, and Chair of the Union Investment Committee. Earlier roles include Global Head of Asset Allocation Strategy and Co-Head of European Economics Research at Barclays Capital (2010–2011) and economist positions at the ECB and IMF (1999–2004). He studied Economics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and earned his doctorate through a joint program conducted simultaneously at WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management and Georgetown University.
